Barbette
Barbette is inspired by a circus performer pioneer with a difference, someone who dazzled the world a hundred years ago.
Barbette (actual name Vander Clyde Broadway) was born in Texas in 1898 and rose to massive fame in the 1920s as a female impersonator who performed as an accomplished acrobat, tightwire and trapeze artist. Beloved by Jean Cocteau in Paris where his fame was born, Barbette was bold, brave and brilliant and became a fabulous gay icon.
This model has been influenced by his wild side with a little nod to the rock scene, a world filled with wild and bold personalities!
Barbette is part of the larger circus model series; more detailed models of notable size designed as sculptural pieces. These models are made the same as all models using wire, paper mache, plaster, paint and varied adornments including textiles and decorations. All are varnished for longevity.
Approx 57cm height & 37cm wide
