Alice is inspired by Alice Clark Brown who was a circus aerialist and famously the first African American showgirl, dancer and aerial acrobat woman to join the Ringling Brothers circus in 1971, aged 19. Clark Brown climbed ropes, did acrobatic stunts, spun around upside-down, holding onto the spinning rope by only afoot, a knee, a wrist. She leaped through the air, and balanced on elephants.
After a few years Alice left the circus world but had a busy and full life as a musician, actor and mother. Once she had got her bachelor’s degree in English in 2004 Alice worked within education and active voluntary work within her community. Sadly Alice died aged 68 in her native Chicago, leaving behind quite the legacy.
Alice is part of the larger circus model series; more detailed models of notable size designed as sculptural pieces. These models are made the same as all models using wire, paper mache, plaster, paint and varied adornments including textiles and decorations. All are varnished for longevity.
